Boliqueime
Boliqueime
Some of the best ocean views in the area
Boliqueime is one of the places in the Algarve that seems to generate a lot of different pronunciations! The language is tough to get your head around and we may not be 100% right, but we pronounce Boliqueime as Boli – kem.
Pronunciation aside, it is a charming and colourful Portuguese parish. Located in the municipality of Loulé it is a typical Algarvean village which dates back to the 12th century. Set in the hills, Boliqueime is a quiet, country location with some of the best views of the ocean and its golden beaches you will find. Just five minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Vilamoura, Boliqueime is perfect for getting away from it all.
There is a great mix of Portuguese locals and expats in Boliqueime. Many live there all year round and there is a really strong community feel and village atmosphere here. People meet up for a coffee in the morning or a glass of wine at the end of the day in the centre of the village.
You have an Aldi, Lidl and Dutch supermarket just on the outskirts of the village as well as a selection of cafés, local restaurants and bistros to choose from. For a more “evening out” meal then you can opt to go to Vilamoura, a five minutes drive away or Albufeira – around 15 minutes in the car.
Property styles range from traditional Algavean villas, renovated farmhouses and modern townhouses to luxurious estates and small quintas. Properties in Boliqueime will mainly be private and so there are no condominium fees to pay. This is far more of a local, year round area to buy in than a holiday complex on the coast. Boliqueime is a popular place to buy and so average prices are slightly higher than other inland areas. Rental possibilities in this area are also good.
