Alvor
Alvor
Watch the fishing boats come and go with a drink in your hand and music playing in the background.
Although the earthquake wiped out most of the traditional Moorish village of Alvor in 1755, you can still see remains of its history in places.
Even with the steady development of the town since the influx of tourists in the 1960s the buildings are mainly low-rise and the charm of the old town with the narrow cobbled streets leading down to the harbour still remains.
Situated on the estuary of the Rio Alvor, Alvor was and still is, a fishing village. Its riverfront has been renovated over recent years and is now fully paved and lined with palm trees and several beach bars with plenty of outside seating. This has to be one of Alvor’s most idyllic settings. You can sit and watch the fishing boats come and go with a drink in your hand and music playing in the background.
Alvor is an ideal area for families both to live and holiday as it has everything that you need – plenty of shops, smaller grocery shops, bars, restaurants and the main beach of Praia de Alvor is just a short walk away.
Property in Alvor will mainly be private rather than in condominiums, but there are a few places where you can purchase an apartment or townhouse within a development.
