Where to start

Spanning roughly 200km east to west, the Algarve is a mix of modern towns, tranquil fishing villages and communities that hold hard to their traditions. It is worth exploring properly — the landscape is more varied than the postcards suggest.

It attracts fewer visitors than the Costa del Sol and is far less developed as a result. Faro airport sits right by the sea and is well served year round by inexpensive flights from across Europe, which is a large part of why buyers keep coming back.

Central Algarve

Traditional, modern and full of life

Central Algarve

The Central Algarve is the most developed of the three regions, and it is here that you will find the Algarve's Golden Triangle — the resorts of Vale do Lobo, Quinta do Lago and Vilamoura.

Glistening beaches, world-class golf courses, Michelin-starred restaurants and multi-million-euro gated villas sit alongside working towns and quiet hill villages. We classify the Central Algarve from the historic city of Silves, down to the coast and over to the craft capital of Loulé.

It is the largest region and probably the most popular. The hustle of the coast is in direct contrast to the tranquillity of the hills, and that eclectic mix of styles, properties and terrain is exactly what we love about it.

Western Algarve

Chilled, laid back and awesome coastlines

Western Algarve

The Western Algarve has some of the finest coastline in the country — rocky coves, serious surf and beaches you have to walk to find.

We classify the region as spanning from Cape St Vincent in Sagres — the southwesternmost point of mainland Europe — across to Carvoeiro. It is full of charm and tradition as well as modernity and style.

There is a great mix of stylish villas and luxury apartments here, and you really are spoilt for choice. Surfers love Lagos, golfers love Carvoeiro; we love all of it.

Eastern Algarve

Authentic, traditional and tranquil

Eastern Algarve

The Eastern Algarve took longer to be discovered by overseas buyers, and many argue it retains more of an authentic Portuguese feel than its central and western neighbours. It also offers stunning flat seascapes across the Ria Formosa.

The smallest of the three regions, we classify it from Santa Bárbara de Nexe over to Castro Marim on the Spanish border.

With magnificent hilltop views and cobbled towns, many say that spending time here is like going back twenty or thirty years to a slower, more relaxed pace of life. The East is where we go to unwind.
